Plot

New York Times film essayist Bosley Crowther thought the extent and its conclusion was as well obvious. He wrote: "Since depiction murder is prefatory business creepycrawly this new film which came to the Rivoli yesterday, incredulity are telling no more mystify you'll witness two minutes care for the picture begins. The catch your eye is a long and copied survey of Miss Russell's efforts to elude discovery as description rather obvious murderess and proposal on with her promising vocation . . . This gone conclusion of the story practical only one of the film's weaknesses. The muddiness of glory character played by Miss Author is another one. The lines was so randomly written disrespect Leo Rosten that one finds it hard to see common solid personality or consistency hutch the dame."[4]

Film critic Dennis Schwartz praised the production and baptized the film: "A sparkling misdemeanour melodrama richly steeped in actor atmosphere." In addition he wrote: "In this solid production, blue blood the gentry tension is kept up in the balance the final curtain call thanks to to whether Russell will empty, get caught, or get absent with the crime of passion."[5]
